We achieve this through an interprofessional network that supports and cares for our patients throughout the entire process. Findings are closely documented and analyzed in interdisciplinary case discussions.

treatment is therefore preceded by a careful diagnosis.
Individual therapy concepts
Our strength is the communication
between the individual specialist disciplines and the critical examination of the
the therapy options and their
prospects of success.
Close and competent cooperation with general practitioners paves the way for new forms of therapy. In our

Diagnostics - from imaging to complex clarification
We have the latest imaging techniques at our disposal. This enables us to record all changes that affect your spine, from whole-body measurements to functional examinations of the spine. In addition to the standard procedures for bone density measurement, X-ray, MRI and CT, we also have expertise in imaging inflammatory changes in the spine and changes in the back muscles.
Physiotherapeutic assessment
We offer an assessment where, in addition to the impact of your back problems on your everyday life, your physical condition is also precisely recorded and analyzed. This is an important component of the therapy concept.

Surgical treatment
Spinal Surgery at the University Hospital Basel is the only university facility in Switzerland to offer all surgical treatments of the spine in a single clinic. The spectrum includes degenerative changes (disc problems, spinal canal stenosis, spondylolisthesis), deformities (scoliosis), injuries (fractures, including spinal cord injuries), tumors (including spinal cord tumors and metastases), bone fractures in osteoporosis and the treatment of inflammations or infections of the spine.
The clinic uses state-of-the-art surgical techniques. In our hybrid operating theater, for example, we have robotics, 3D imaging and navigation. Microsurgical and minimally invasive techniques are part of our standard repertoire.
If necessary, we use special implants and surgical techniques for our tumor patients with osteoporosis.
Non-surgical treatment
Here we offer the patient all interventional treatment options (infiltrations, also CT-guided) in addition to surgery or as an alternative, as well as clarification of the treatment option with a pain stimulator.
Based on the results of the interdisciplinary assessment, various therapies are recommended to the patient. For example, a training concept, accompanying behavioral therapy, drug-based pain therapy, aids such as so-called TENS devices (these are devices for electrotherapy via the skin).
The final results of the assessment and treatment are discussed in detail with the patient and the family doctor treating them.
Rheumatology, neurology and infectiology
Rheumatology and neurology in particular are regularly involved in the clarification process. Infectiology is also involved if necessary. The aim is to identify concomitant diseases that should or even must be additionally addressed through targeted treatment.
