Applying at the USB: How it works!
Have you seen an exciting vacancy with us or would you like to apply spontaneously? Congratulations, then we look forward to receiving your application dossier. Here you can find out step by step how the application process works at the USB.
Submission of documents
You can apply for advertised vacancies via our job portal. Upload your complete documents online. You will then receive an automatic confirmation message by e-mail. We will check your application documents as quickly as possible.
The initial consultation
If you meet the criteria for the advertised position, we would like to get to know you personally. We will invite you by e-mail or telephone to an initial interview (on-site or virtual) with the person responsible for management. This appointment usually lasts 45 - 60 minutes.
The second interview
Have you convinced us? After a successful initial interview, we usually invite you to a second appointment. The purpose of the second interview is to get to know you better, but it also gives you the opportunity to gain an insight into working at the University Hospital Basel. The exact procedure for the second interview depends on the position advertised.
The decision
After the second interview, we will let you know as soon as possible whether we have decided in your favor. If we have been able to convince you, you will receive your employment contract shortly afterwards.

Can I apply by post?
No - we only accept applications online directly via our job portal. Dossiers submitted by post can unfortunately not be considered for this reason.
Will I be notified when my application has been received?
In any case! Once we have received your documents, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt by e-mail. If you do not receive a confirmation, you can contact us at rekrutierung@usb.ch.
Can I apply for several jobs at the same time?
Yes, of course you can also apply for various positions at the hospital.
I am applying from abroad. What do I need to bear in mind?
You can find more information on how to apply from abroad here. We require a good knowledge of German.
Can I also apply spontaneously?
We also welcome unsolicited applications for nursing, IT, MTT (medical-technical and medical-therapeutic areas) and assistant doctors. You can apply spontaneously here.
When will I receive feedback on my application?
You will hear from us in any case - normally you will be informed within 1 to 2 weeks after the confirmation of receipt, even if it is a rejection.
Can I reapply after a rejection?
Yes, you can reapply online for a new position at any time.
