What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a scientific investigation that is required before a new drug or therapy concept can be approved or become routine clinical practice. Conducting clinical trials is an indispensable instrument for the further development of medical progress and the continuous improvement of the quality of care for patients. Clinical trials can be used to test the safety, tolerability and efficacy of new or already approved drugs, forms of therapy or medical interventions. Clinical research offers the opportunity to alleviate the suffering of sick people, increase their quality of life in the long term and sustainably improve medical care.

Why clinical trials?

New medicines must be tested with the greatest possible care for their efficacy and safety before they are approved by the authorities and made available for medical prescription. Even drugs that are already available must continue to be tested for their efficacy and safety if they have already been approved or are to be approved for diseases for which no approval has yet been granted. Ultimately, studies are used for quality control and patient safety both before and after the approval of a therapy. This knowledge therefore benefits every patient suffering from the relevant disease.

Your benefits from participating in the study

Access to new therapies

The aim of a clinical trial is to gain scientific knowledge about new treatment options that can be used to better help you as a patient. Every trial participation therefore offers the chance to improve your state of health with new therapies even before these therapies are available to other patients.

Medical care

Study visits are not intended to replace regular health checks, but by participating in a study you can take personal responsibility for the treatment of your illness. As part of the study visits, you will regularly benefit from comprehensive medical care and advice from our medical study staff. In addition, we will take plenty of time for you and our study staff will be available to you at all times during the clinical trial.

Contribution to medical progress

By participating in the study, you enable the collection of information that is important for the development of new treatment options for your disease. You will be part of a worldwide scientific network and make an important contribution to medical progress, from which you and other patients will benefit in the future.
