Information for referring physicians

Interdisciplinary expertise and the highest standards

Our center guarantees maximum patient safety and care through an experienced, interdisciplinary team of neurologists, emergency physicians, intensive care physicians, neurosurgeons, vascular surgeons and (neuro)radiologists. The close cooperation and regular exchange of information in indication conferences enable precise diagnostics and treatment planning at the highest level.

Further education and training

Our internationally networked and recognized team of experts regularly offers further and advanced training for specialists and nursing staff. These events promote scientific exchange and regional networking. Current dates can be found under "News". Referring colleagues are cordially invited to attend.

State-of-the-art neuroradiology

Our neuroradiology department provides essential imaging to identify affected areas of the brain and vascular pathologies:

  • CT of the latest generation (multimodal incl. perfusion).
  • 3-Tesla MRI with highly specialized protocols (plaque imaging, vasculitis diagnostics, time-resolved imaging for AV fistulas).
  • 3D angiography of the latest generation with parallel CT integration for imaging and interventional therapy of vascular anomalies

Indication conferences and special consultation hours

Multidisciplinary discussion of complex extra- (e.g. carotid or vertebral) and intracranial vascular stenoses to decide on potential surgical or endovascular treatments (weekly, every Wednesday at 5 pm).

Participants: neurology, angiology, neuroradiology, vascular surgery, other specialties if necessary.

Registration by email to neurovasc@usb.ch or via ISMED in the internal system (interdisciplinary case conferences).

Multidisciplinary discussion of complex cardio-neurological cases (every Monday at 5 p.m.).

Topics: PFO occlusion indication in stroke patients, LAA occlusion, etiology clarification and OAK strategies. Participants: neurology, cardiology, neuroradiology, hypertensiology, lipidology.

Registration by email to neurovasc@usb.ch or cardioboard@usb.ch or via ISMED in the internal system (interdisciplinary case conferences).

Multidisciplinary discussion of complex intracranial vascular pathologies, e.g. aneurysms, AV fistula, Moya-Moya (like)disease (every Wednesday at 4pm via TEAMS link).

Participants: neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neurology, possibly other specialties.

Registration by email to neurochirurgie@usb.ch or neuroradiologie@usb.ch or via ISMED in the internal system (interdisciplinary case conferences).

Follow-up care for neurovascular inpatients. Care of high-risk vascular patients. Primary or secondary prophylaxis of cardiovascular risk factors with the availability of interdisciplinary services (hypertension consultation, lipid consultation, genetic counseling, sleep laboratory). Support from neurovascular experts for precise diagnostics and therapy recommendations.

State-of-the-art equipment with high-resolution transducers, embolism detection, bubble tests and live 3D fusion images between duplex sonography and MRI/CT slice images. Reference center for second opinions.
