Heart valve diseases
Valves can be narrowed (stenosis), leaky (insufficiency) or inflamed (endocarditis), so individual treatment planning (from repair to replacement) is always necessary.
Our offer
At the University Heart Center Basel, we offer all current treatment options for heart valve diseases. These include surgical interventions with replacement or reconstruction of the respective valve under opening of the chest and using a heart-lung machine or, if possible, a minimally invasive approach.
Furthermore, all interventional therapy options such as catheter-assisted aortic valve replacement (TAVI) or mitral valve reconstruction/replacement (Mitraclip, PASCAL, Tendyne and others) are offered.
The only effective treatment for severe aortic valve stenosis is aortic valve replacement. This aortic valve replacement can be performed surgically or interventional.
Detailed information on heart valve diseases and treatment options can be found on the homepage of the Swiss Heart Foundation
In addition to the private consultation hours, we also offer a special consultation hour for structural heart disease (valve consultation hour).
