Job description
As a surgical technology specialist HF, you make a significant contribution to the success of the operation by helping to plan and organize the daily surgical procedures in the operating theatre. You will provide and check the instruments, materials and medical equipment. During the operation, you will hand the instruments to the surgeon. You coordinate the deployment of various teams, e.g. surgeons from different specialist disciplines and specialist staff from anesthesia, nursing or medical technology. As a surgical technology specialist, you will plan the occupancy of the operating room, schedule the equipment and take on logistical tasks such as the storage of materials, their disposal and maintenance.
As a surgical technology specialist, you will provide the instruments, materials and equipment required for a surgical operation. As a specialist, you are responsible for organizational processes, logistics and the implementation of measures to ensure hygiene regulations.
In collaboration with the teams from various specialist disciplines, you will optimize the well-being and safety of the patients. Once the operation has begun, maximum concentration is required. As a surgical technology specialist, you are part of the interdisciplinary surgical team, whose interaction must be coordinated during an operation. The course of an operation, which cannot always be planned, requires flexibility but also safety and great precision.
As soon as the surgeon's work is done, we prepare the instruments for reprocessing after the operation. Cleaning and sterilization is carried out in the AEMP( Medical ProductsReprocessing Unit).
Training process
You will complete your practical training at the University Hospital in all specialist areas. You will work in a team and acquire the necessary skills. A vocational trainer will be on hand to provide you with the best possible support and encouragement. In addition, you will spend a few days gaining an insight into the wards that a patient passes through directly before or after an operation (e.g. radiology, emergency ward, physiotherapy, nursing).
You will attend theoretical classes at the College of Health and Social Sciences HFGS in Aarau.
The course lasts three years.
Prerequisites
- Secondary level II qualification, preferably in a related profession with a federal certificate of proficiency
- Vocational, technical or high school diploma or equivalent qualification
- Aptitude test/acceptance procedure at the Higher Technical College of Health in Aarau
- Enjoy working with people

- Mental agility and a willingness to adapt to rapidly changing and complex situations
