Two maintenance specialists with a toolbox

Specialist in operational maintenance EFZ, specializing in housekeeping

There are many apprenticeships in a hospital - not just in the nursing field. If you are interested in building services, enjoy carrying out repairs, looking after green spaces (green fingers ahoy!) and don't have two left hands, the USB is more than the right place for you. You can find more information about the apprenticeship as a maintenance specialist EFZ on this page.

Information on training

As an operations maintenance specialist, you are responsible for ensuring that all the facilities in and around the University Hospital buildings function properly. Sounds complex - but it is. Your tasks are correspondingly varied: You will maintain and clean buildings and outdoor facilities, monitor the building services, carry out repairs, maintain green spaces and deal with waste disposal. You carry out minor repairs yourself. If necessary, you will also take on simpler bricklaying, painting and carpentry work. Specialists in operational maintenance specializing in housekeeping mainly work indoors.

Your area of responsibility includes

As an apprentice operational maintenance specialist, you will work in our building management department. Together with the responsible specialists (city gardening, electricians, energy center, etc.), you will carry out various tasks in and around the University Hospital. As soon as you know your way around, you will be able to take on smaller maintenance and cleaning tasks independently. Your apprenticeship will be structured as follows:

Practice: 4 days/week in the company

Lessons: 1 day/week at the trade school in Liestal

Inter-company courses (ÜK): 16 days, at the Mittelland training center (FB ABZM) on the Sursee campus

After your apprenticeship as a maintenance specialist, you have many options. Lots of them. For example, these:

  • FA janitor
  • FA maintenance specialist
  • Certified building cleaner HFP
  • Certified Head of Facility Management HFP
  • Bachelor of Science FH in Facility Management

We look forward to receiving your application. Even more so if it is complete. So make sure that your application dossier - the heart of the application - includes your CV and references. The CV helps us to know a few things about you before the first interview. So list the most important information about you in your CV. We don't mean the number of followers you have on Insta or the games you have won on FIFA, but your date of birth, address, the name of your school, as well as your hobbies and interests.

If we are impressed by your application dossier, we will invite you to an interview. To make sure you make a good impression there, you should find out a little about the University Hospital Basel beforehand. Take a look at our website, scroll through our Instagram feed or check out the USB YouTube channel. This is the best way to find out exactly what we do here and whether you like it.

Not quite sure how the school works? Wondering who your instructor will be? Make a note of all the questions on a piece of paper so that you don't forget to ask them at the interview because you're so nervous!

Please note that we only accept applications via our online platform and not by email.
