Innovation Management
The Innovation Management department at the University Hospital is our platform for trying out and developing new things, exchanging ideas with external drivers of innovation and - most importantly - promoting the ideas of our employees through regular competitions. The heart of this department is the "Innovation Lab", a simulated patient room where we find space for our own ideas, but also regularly welcome tech companies and let them inspire us.
"Innovation should always bring benefits - whether for patients or employees."

Prof. Jens Eckstein, Head of Innovation Management
For the medicine of the future
The University Hospital Basel is an active research platform for advancing the future of medicine. Innovation takes place in a wide variety of departments - for example in our internal 3D Print Lab, where realistic anatomical models and other 3D objects are produced from patient image data. State-of-the-art technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality are used to integrate innovation and digitalization into standard clinical processes.
Future Friday
With the Future Friday competition, we offer inspired innovators the perfect stage for their inventive spirit: This is where employees can present their ideas that involve new developments in the digital field. These are usually technical innovations or developments from the IT segment. The competition has already produced some exciting innovations that are about to go live at the university hospital.

CIP price
CIP stands for "continuous improvement process" - the idea of constant improvement is part of the corporate culture at the university hospital. Since 2017, this credo has been the reason for the CIP Award, which recognizes interprofessional teams of employees who actively contribute to improving everyday life at the university hospital - first and foremost for patients, but always with a focus on the employees themselves. The competition promotes the transfer of knowledge between departments - and often creates an interface where previously there was an invisible wall.
