Information on training
Job description
As an EFZ healthcare specialist - also known simply as a FaGe - you will care for and look after patients in the inpatient area. You share responsibility for the care process of patients during their hospital stay and support them as required and as the situation demands.
At the University Hospital Basel, healthcare professionals work in teams on the wards with various professional groups in the nursing profession - so you are never alone. As an apprentice, you will work closely with the qualified nurses HF. In general, you will work closely with other people - be it with patients and their relatives or with employees from different areas of the university hospital.
Training process
During your training, you will be closely supervised by vocational trainers in your day-to-day work and guided to successful completion of your apprenticeship. You will always be trained and supervised together with other trainees from different levels and training courses - HF and FH nurses.
Lessons take place two days a week in the first two years of training. In the third year, only the vocational baccalaureate students have lessons on two days, all others on one day per week. The theoretical part of your training is therefore no greater than the practical part. Speaking of the theoretical part: the lessons take place at the vocational school for healthcare in Münchenstein. The inter-company courses (ÜK) are held at the ÜK center of the OdA Gesundheit beider Basel, also in Münchenstein. Google will tell you where it is and how to get there.
Training path: "Concept of the home port"
1st year of training
Assignment to a training ward (e.g. learning island surgery 4.1)
In your first year of training, you will get to know the training ward and be introduced to the ward back office. You will also learn about ward logistics and ward hospitality and acquire skills in nursing and care. You will receive top support throughout: from your vocational trainers and thanks to the learning island.
2nd year of training
Change to a new training ward (e.g. medicine learning island 5.1)
In the second year, you change areas. This will allow you to gain and deepen your skills in the areas of nursing and care as well as medical technology. Of course, we won't leave you alone here either: Vocational trainers will look after you.
3rd year of training
Final spurt! In the final year of your apprenticeship, you will return to your "home port" (e.g. Learning Island Surgery 4.1). You will deepen the professional skills you have acquired and be optimally prepared for the upcoming final apprenticeship examination.
