Computer scientist EFZ specializing in application development

There are many apprenticeships in a hospital - not only in the care sector, but also in IT. If software is your thing, you would like to learn programming and create concepts and would like to actively support IT in application support, then an apprenticeship as a computer scientist EFZ at the USB is just the thing for you. You can find more information about the apprenticeship on this page.

Information on training

As a computer scientist specializing in application development, you are a software development specialist. During your apprenticeship, you will learn how to implement solutions for new or existing software. These are used in medical operations, clinical research or in the administrative world of the USB. With your ability to put yourself in the shoes of existing business processes in a wide range of areas, you will first analyze the wishes of your clients and record the requirements for the application. After analyzing the requirements, you will develop a detailed concept. You then program the application. You test according to standardized specifications and, if necessary, support the training staff and future users before handing over the application to productive operation.

The apprenticeship lasts 4 years. Does that sound long? Don't worry: your training time will fly by because your apprenticeship is divided into 3 different learning locations:

Practice: 3-4 days/week at the USB
Lessons: 1-2 days/week at the Muttenz trade school
Inter-company courses (ÜK): 6 modules of 5 days each

  • The description "diversely interested" suits you
  • You are enthusiastic about information and communication technologies

  • You enjoy working in a team and are communicative (and not just during the coffee break)
  • You are no stranger to independence, reliability and a sense of responsibility
  • Last but not least: You like working with computers!

The vocational baccalaureate complements your basic vocational training with an extended general education. It gives you access to a university of applied sciences FH.

  • 5 weeks vacation
  • 13th monthly salary
  • Practical and personal support
  • Great offers, such as free sports courses and discounts at Ticketcorner.

As a qualified computer scientist EFZ, you will find interesting jobs in many industries. Because computer scientists will become increasingly important in the future.

With the professional examination, you can become an ICT application developer EFA, ICT system and network technician EFA or business IT specialist EFA, for example. The higher professional examination makes you an ICT manager with a federal diploma or an ICT security expert with a federal diploma. Various courses at higher technical colleges (cantonal and private) offer further opportunities. If your performance is above average, you can attend a vocational baccalaureate school with a technical focus during your apprenticeship. This gives you the opportunity to study at a university of applied sciences without taking an exam. Here, for example, you can study for a Bachelor of Science in computer science or business informatics.

We look forward to receiving your application. Even more so if it is complete. So make sure that your application dossier - the heart of the application - includes your CV and references. The CV helps us to know a few things about you before the first interview. So list the most important information about you in your CV. We don't mean the number of followers you have on Insta or the games you have won on FIFA, but your date of birth, address, the name of your school, as well as your hobbies and interests.

If we are impressed by your application dossier, we will invite you to an interview. To make sure you make a good impression there, you should find out a little about the University Hospital Basel beforehand. Take a look at our website, scroll through our Instagram feed or check out the USB YouTube channel. This is the best way to find out exactly what we do here and whether you like it.

Not quite sure how the school works? Wondering who your instructor will be? Make a note of all the questions on a piece of paper so that you don't forget to ask them at the interview because you're so nervous!

Please note that we only accept applications via our online platform and not by email.
