Office assistant on the phone and taking notes

Management assistant EBA

There are many apprenticeships in a hospital - not only in the care sector, but also in the office. If you complete an apprenticeship as an EBA clerk, you will primarily be responsible for activities in the area of patient services and/or secretarial work. You can find more information about an apprenticeship as an EBA clerk on this page.

Information on training

As an EBA clerk, you will carry out administrative tasks in various areas of the University Hospital. Of course, the tasks vary depending on the area. You will be familiar with all office equipment, write letters according to templates, record patient data and operate the necessary programs. You will also answer telephones and take telephone notes. You will often be in contact with patients and customers. It is therefore important that you are helpful and customer-oriented. But that shouldn't be a problem for you, should it?

The apprenticeship lasts 2 years and concludes with a Federal Vocational Certificate (EBA).

The University Hospital offers various fields of work in all administrative areas. So that you don't get bored and can learn as much as possible, you will change departments regularly.

Possible places of work are:

  • Patient services (e.g. Women's Clinic, Dermatology, Eye Clinic, Cardiology, Plastic Surgery and others)
  • Secretariats (e.g. Department of Education and Training, Women's Clinic, Eye Clinic and others)

Theoretical instruction takes place at the KV Basel business school. The inter-company courses (ÜK) teach practical skills and are organized by the IGKG (Interessengemeinschaft kaufmännische Grundbildung).

You have completed compulsory schooling with a good to very good grade (level A or E).

  • You are interested in commercial work.
  • You can carry out tasks carefully and reliably.
  • You can express yourself well in German, both orally and in writing.
  • You enjoy dealing with people and working in a team.
  • You like to organize.

It is not possible to complete the vocational baccalaureate during an EBA apprenticeship.

  • 5 weeks vacation
  • 13th monthly salary
  • Practical and personal support
  • Great offers, such as free sports courses and discounts at Ticketcorner.

If you complete the apprenticeship well, it is possible to complete a shortened apprenticeship (2 years) as a commercial clerk EFZ (B profile). The USB offers one apprenticeship every year, which is usually offered to internal graduates. You can also train to become a clerk in various specialist areas such as medical/hospital secretary.

We look forward to receiving your application. Even more so if it is complete. So make sure that your application dossier - the heart of the application - includes your CV and references. The CV helps us to know a few things about you before the first interview. So list the most important information about you in your CV. We don't mean the number of followers you have on Insta or the games you have won on FIFA, but your date of birth, address, the name of your school, as well as your hobbies and interests.

If we are impressed by your application dossier, we will invite you to an interview. To make sure you make a good impression there, you should find out a little about the University Hospital Basel beforehand. Take a look at our website, scroll through our Instagram feed or check out the USB YouTube channel. This is the best way to find out exactly what we do here and whether you like it.

Not quite sure how the school works? Wondering who your instructor will be? Make a note of all the questions on a piece of paper so that you don't forget to ask them at the interview because you're so nervous!

Please note that we only accept applications via our online platform and not by email.
