The application process for an apprenticeship at the USB
A solid cover letter is the basis for a successful application. It determines whether you are invited to an interview. We have put together a few application tips to help you score points with your documents and make a good impression at the interview.
Application process
Would you like to apply to the USB? We are very happy about that! Below you will find our application process in detail. You'll know exactly what happens to your application documents after you've clicked the "Apply" button.
Application documents
If you have uploaded your application correctly, you will receive confirmation by e-mail. Then you need to be patient: While you wait at home and drink tea, USB employees will carefully check your application documents. We may contact you by telephone if we have any queries.
Personal conversation
Yesss! If your application meets our requirements profile, then you've cleared the first hurdle. You will be invited to a personal interview with a vocational trainer and a person from the training department. We look forward to getting to know you!
Practical insight
If the personal interview is positive, we will invite you to take a look at the practical side of things. This will allow you to find out whether you and your future team are a "match" and whether you would like to do an apprenticeship with us. Incidentally, the same applies to us: we will also take a look at your practical experience to see if you are a good fit for us.
Feedback & apprenticeship contract
Of course, we won't keep you in suspense for long: if everything goes well, we will give you prompt feedback and send you the apprenticeship contract by post. Then everything is signed and sealed and you can start with us.
Application documents
Because there is no second chance to make a first impression, it is important that your application is complete and appealing. To make sure you don't forget anything, we have listed the documents you should send us here.
Curriculum vitae
You can give us a little insight into your life with your CV. This will tell us more about you, your interests and your career. Please include the following points in the document:
- Education: List the schools you attended - always start with the most recent.
- Hobbies: What do you do in your free time?
- Legal representative: If you are not yet of legal age, we need this information.
- E-mail address & telephone number - so that we can contact you.
- Multicheck: So that we can better assess you and your school skills (depending on the apprenticeship).
- Information on trial apprenticeships, vacation assignments, etc.
- Reference details, e.g. teachers, supervisors from vacation jobs, etc.
By the way: It's up to you whether you include a photo with your CV or not.
Certificates
Unfortunately, we can't do without them... Please send us your last certificate and other certificates or reports (e.g. trial apprenticeship report, vacation job certificate, etc.).
Job interview
Congratulations - if you are invited to an interview, your profile has already aroused our curiosity. It's best to follow these tips to ensure that everything goes smoothly at the interview:
- Prepare seriously for the interview in advance. Click through our homepage and visit our social media channels Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. You'll learn a lot about USB and our work culture.
- Think about clever answers to questions like: Why do you want to learn this profession?
- Why are you applying to us? What do you already know about your dream job?
- Do you still have a few questions for us? All the better! Make a note of them at home so that you don't forget to ask them at the interview.
- What are you wearing? It's often worth taking a look in your closet the day before.
- Where exactly will the interview take place? The University Hospital Basel is quite large. To avoid wandering around, you should know exactly which wing of the building you are expected in.
- Allow enough time for the journey. Being late is also a no-go for us.
- At the interview: ask questions, be attentive, make a note of important points and show interest.
- By the way: It's completely normal to be nervous. But don't worry - we're looking forward to meeting you!
