EFZ computer scientist in training talks to a colleague at work

Computer scientist EFZ specializing in platform development

There are many apprenticeships in a hospital - not only in the care sector, but also in IT. If you are interested in IT systems and software installations and enjoy programming tasks, the USB is more than the right place for you. You can find more information about the apprenticeship as a computer scientist EFZ specializing in platform development on this page.

Information on training

As a computer scientist specializing in platform development, you will develop, implement, integrate and maintain IT solutions. Sounds exciting - and it is. You are the specialist for setting up and maintaining IT systems. In concrete terms, this means that you install computers, servers and networks, expand device configurations and software installations, develop IT concepts and train users. As a platform developer, you are also responsible for the maintenance of hardware, software and networks as well as troubleshooting. Depending on your area of work, you will also take on specific programming tasks.

The training lasts 4 years. You will see: The years will fly by, as your apprenticeship is divided into 3 different learning locations:

Practice: 3-4 days/week at the USB
Lessons: 1-2 days/week at the Muttenz trade school
Inter-company courses (ÜK): 6 modules of 5 days each

  • You have completed compulsory schooling, level P (or E) with good grades in math and English
  • You have a keen interest in technology (hello technology freaks!) and in contact with customers
  • Logical and abstract thinking is one of your strengths
  • You work independently, focused and structured
  • You are independent, reliable and a team player
  • You are patient - sometimes things don't work out right away
  • You are very curious and willing to learn
  • You like working with computers - logical, right?

The vocational baccalaureate complements your basic vocational training with an extended general education. It gives you access to a university of applied sciences (UAS).

  • 5 weeks vacation
  • 13th monthly salary
  • Practical and personal support
  • Great offers, such as free sports courses and discounts at Ticketcorner.

With the Federal Certificate of Competence (EFZ) as a computer scientist, many paths are open to you. An above-average number, because computer scientists will become increasingly important in the future. You will find jobs in all sectors.

Your wide choice also applies to further training. With the professional examination, you can take the following career steps, for example:

  • ICT application developer with a federal certificate
  • ICT system and network technician with a federal certificate
  • Media technician with a federal certificate
  • Business IT specialist with a federal certificate

The Advanced Federal PET Diploma gives you one of these qualifications:

  • ICT Manager with a federal diploma
  • ICT security expert with a federal diploma

It is also possible to study at a university of applied sciences with training as a computer scientist in systems engineering and a vocational baccalaureate, for example with a Bachelor of Science in computer science or in business informatics.

We look forward to receiving your application. Even more so if it is complete. So make sure that your application dossier - the heart of the application - includes your CV and references. The CV helps us to know a few things about you before the first interview. So list the most important information about you in your CV. We don't mean the number of followers you have on Insta or the games you have won on FIFA, but your date of birth, address, the name of your school, as well as your hobbies and interests.

If we are impressed by your application dossier, we will invite you to an interview. To make sure you make a good impression there, you should find out a little about the University Hospital Basel beforehand. Take a look at our website, scroll through our Instagram feed or check out the USB YouTube channel. This is the best way to find out exactly what we do here and whether you like it.

Not quite sure how the school works? Wondering who your instructor will be? Make a note of all the questions on a piece of paper so that you don't forget to ask them at the interview because you're so nervous!

Please note that we only accept applications via our online platform and not by email.
